First points and a move up the table

On a grey, cold, and ultimately wet Saturday afternoon, P&R Men's 1 travelled to Oxford in search of their first points of the new league season. Going into the game on the back of a week off and 3 defeats the team were in desperate need of a good performance and a return to winning ways. A positive attitude and desire meant a bright start, maintaining possession and looking to be offensive and create chances. Despite this the first goal went to Oxford, but as the rain started to fall P&R found their form and unloaded a barrage of counter attacks, fast paced and accurate, ending the half leading the game 3-1.

However, half time came and although a welcome break, brought a momentum switch - Oxford being the aggressors again and some sharp play saw them tie the game 3-3 within minutes of the restart. Having flashbacks of loosing recently from a winning position, P&R needed to summon all their discipline and focus to defend hard, and they did - going back to absorbing pressure and counter attacking. It paid off, and once again took the lead of the game, but with an agonising 18 minutes still to play it was no free ride. Oxford pilled on the pressure but some stalwart defending in the dying depths of the game saw P&R emerge victorious, 4-3.

Goals: Martin Newell (2), Phil Browne (2)
