P&R ladies 1's suffered a narrow defeat in their first pre season game on Saturday, losing 2-1 to Prem 1 opposition South Berks 1's. Having played out a tough and physical 0-0 draw in summer league, these 2 teams knew that it would be a battle and so it proved.
In the bright sunshine at Reading Uni Sportspark, P&R took first blood with Mollie Edgar getting the early goal.
A couple of other chances came and went for P&R but they couldn't get the final touch they needed to get further ahead.
South Berks hit back straight after the restart getting an equaliser from a short corner and getting their confidence back. They came at P&R hard and the pressure paid off 13 minutes into the second half when they scored again from open play to take the lead.
P&R dug in and tried to get back on level terms but South Berks stuck to their defensive jobs and ground out the victory.
Ladies 1's will take confidence from their 2 close games against a team playing a division above them and move on next week to play Wallingford.
