Phoenix Reading Hockey Club have enjoyed a summer of mixed hockey success. Organised and led by Dani Sweeney-Perry, club members have had the opportunity to participate in a whole host of events including adhoc games against our local rivals Sonning and South Berks, taking part in the Basingstoke Mixed Summer League, celebrating Yateley HCs 50th Birthday at their Hockey Festival and not forgetting the Sonning Hockey Festival.

And it’s been a hit! With over 30 players picking up-a-stick so far, and nearly 50 members joining our mixed-hockey team WhatsApp group.

Highlights of the mixed-hockey summer season have included gaining two brand new players to PR who have fully integrated into the squad; and bringing the club together - regular league games mean we often do not see other members of the club from one week to the next. (We have yet to win a game but there is still another month of summer to go!)

Dani Sweeney-Perry said ‘The interest in PRs Mixed Squad has been fantastic, we have nearly 50 members interested in playing, fortunately there are enough games to give everyone a chance to play. It has been a great opportunity for players from all of our teams across both the Mens and Ladies sides to get onto the pitch in one large squad on a weekly basis, have a beer after the games and continue the good humour in the WhatsApp group. Hopefully we can carry the mixed squad into the new season with occasional games throughout the winter’.
