Abingdon 1 - 4 Ladies 2's
2's survive early scare to secure 3 points
Ladies 2's made sure of another 3 points with a much improved 2nd half away at Abingdon despite going a goal behind early on in this game. The oranges had most of the early pressure but couldn't find the opening they needed to get the early goal and then got punished with a breakaway goal after 10 minutes to put Abingdon in front.
The goal rattled the team for 5 minutes or so and plenty of passes missed their mark but slowly the team came back into their style of hockey and began working the wings and getting in behind Abingdon. They still couldn't get the killer touch until close to the end of the half, Heather Boulton getting the equaliser after a real scramble in the D.
The second half started with a reshuffled team line up and the team got a 2nd goal early on, Boulton again putting pressure on the back three of Abingdon and getting a shot away to beat their keeper who was having a great game.
Although keeper Hannah Doherty didn't have huge amounts to do she made 2 crucial blocks in the second half which would have seen Abingdon get back into the game and the defence helped Han out with some strong clearances.
After several short corners, it finally paid off with Beth James finishing off at the back post from close range to make it 1-3. The team (and the sideline!) settled down with that third goal and the standard of attacking play definitely improved with 15 minutes to go.
With 5 minutes left Beth sealed the win with her 2nd and the team's 4th to give P&R all 3 points.
Next week sees the team take on University of Reading at 10am and it will be a much tougher game against third place!
