Ladies 2's grab valuable point

The ladies 2's took a small step towards 2nd place on Saturday by taking a point off of division leaders Oxford Hawks in a tough battle in windy conditions. The game started really brightly for the visitors at Banbury Road North and a high press gave the team some great chances to get an early goal but just couldn't apply the final finish in those crucial moments in the first half.

Oxford Hawks defended stubbornly, and with 5 subs were able to rotate players in and out of the game to provide fresh legs. P&R still looked most likely to score but went down 1-0 after a long smash upfield from the Hawks defence found it's way to a high player in the D who applied just the right deflection to send it past the keeper and take them into the lead, despite not having that many chances.

P&R dug in and a rousing half time team talk fired up the team to press the home side even more - the second half saw Hawks have to defend short corners, and from open play to keep the oranges out. The team should probably have had a couple in the second half but some great defending, and the post saved the blushes of the top team who hadn't dropped a point so far this season.

The pressure finally told with 10 minutes to go when Phoebe Gannon popped the ball in the net to make it 1-1 to massive cheers from her team mates! Despites the oranges heroic efforts the team couldn't find a second and hung on to take a massive point into the final 3 games and put themselves in a great chance for a promotion spot!!
